WOW, WHAT A DAY
As I sit here eating cold soup from a cold can in a cold camper on a cold night, I cannot help but feeling a little cold. I have a roaring fire in the wood stove, and the heat hardly makes it over to my corner. I have no propane to run my stove or heater, but since I'm colder than my soup, I'll eat cold soup to warm me up. Today began early, at midnight in fact, just like all other days do. I decided to go deer hunting one last time before the end of the season, and thus left here at abour 6:00 to meet a buddy in Troy. It has been ever so foggy here lately, but it turned out to be clear in the canyon. To make a long story short, I walked WAY to far, and then I had to walk back. We saw a lot of deer, some nice bucks, but nothing big enough for me that I could get a shot at. There are still several days of deer season left, but I have to much to do to get out again, so I knew I had to kill one today if I was going to eat this winter. About a half-hour before it is to dark for me to see (mid-day for most folks), I decided I'd shoot at the next deer I saw. I was about a mile from my pickup, across a big canyon, and dog-tired. I spotted some deer swiftly fleeting down the hillside about 800 yards away. I figured the distance and the speed they were running, and swung a fine bead on the biggest buck. I let loose and, well, in the end, I have meat. Unfortunately, the one I shot was about half the size of Bambi's little brother, but at least I got a deer. Then I get home, and my mom shot a big doe right behind the house. Easy shot, easy pack, lot of meat. I swear, if it weren't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. Well, my soup is getting cold, I had better tend to it's needs.

I use the old faithful Remington model 700 .270, it's always done good for me, I depend on it because I'm a lousy shot.
800 yards...I'm detecting a tall tale here. . . that is almost 1/2 mile. By the way, those "normal" women you refer to in your OB post in a derogatory way-atleast the women in your life are the ones smart enough to stay home and shoot the deer out of the yard. You know, easy shot, easy kill, easy pack and all!!
Jealous? Excuse me, but the cross hairs on the scope at 800 yards would completly cover the deer with a 9X or less scope. The odds of hitting the deer, especially running, are pure luck-Idaho born and grown or not. However, these facts still don't negate the superior intelligence of his mom and two sister who stayed home and shot their game out of the yard-you know-easy shot, easy kill, easy pack-however all that went.Feminist? Just seems like them's the facts. However,Mtdew guy, whoever you are-I'd like to see you do that shot, or in your case "DEW" that shot.
Hey thanks for the backup Chris, I need a lot of it sometimes. Almost any boy I know around here can shoot that good or better. We aint city slickers, and we know how to shoot. I actually shot a deer that far earlier this season, and I have witnesses, but it was taken by another hunter before we could get over there. (I think he was a forienger)
To whoever you are that aint brave enough to share you're identity, I only have this to say. I will not lower myself to respond to your "normal" women comment, you know, sometimes the truth hurts. I do use a higher power scope than you speak of, but it is easier to hit a running deer on 3 power. I know you wouldn't understand, but me being a nice guy and all, I decided to share my thoughts peaceably.
Take care Chris and do the DEW
